Empowering Gymnastics in Uganda: Updates from the UOC and Beyond

Updates from the UOC

The Uganda Gymnastics Federation (UGF) is actively preparing for an ambitious 2026 season, following a series of strategic engagements with the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC). From financial accountability to international competition planning, here is a look at recent developments and upcoming opportunities.

The Road to 2026

UOC Quarterly Council Meeting

A summary of the recent UOC/CGU Quarterly Council Meeting held virtually on December 29, 2025, highlights significant upcoming milestones for gymnastics. UGF President Ayaa Harriet was specifically recognized for her successful leadership of the team during the ANOCA Games in Angola earlier that month.

The critical action points for UGF include:

  •  * Major Games Preparations: UGF has been directed to immediately begin preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (July–August) and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar (October–November).
  •  * Talent Identification: A coach questionnaire and a 2026 activity calendar must be submitted immediately to the UOC Talent Identification Commission.
  •  * Regulatory Compliance: To maintain standing with the National Council of Sports (NCS), UGF is prioritizing audits and compliance with URSB, URA, and NSSF before the new financial year begins in July 2026.

Strengthening Financial Governance

On 24 January 2026, UGF leadership—including the President, Assistant Secretary General, and Accountant—attended a critical Financial Accounting Workshop at the UOC offices in Lugogo. This training was designed to help the federation manage diverse funding sources and ensure high standards of accountability.

Key objectives of the workshop included:

  •  * Accountability: Demonstrating transparent use of all funds received.
  •  * Compliance: Meeting legal and donor requirements, including the NCS Sports Act 2023.
  •  * Strategic Planning: Using accurate financial data to support budgeting and decision-making.

Capacity Building: Professional Development Opportunities

The UOC continues to offer world-class training through its Capacity Building department to professionalize sports administration in Uganda. Key courses hosted by the UOC include:

  •  * Sports Administrators Course (SAC): Run under the Olympic Solidarity program, this course educates sports administrators on the Olympic Movement and the practical aspects of managing sports organizations.
  •  * Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC): Supported by the International Olympic Committee, this professional development program is designed for executive-level staff and volunteers. It focuses on enhancing managerial skills and sports governance, leading to a diploma in Managing Olympic Sport Organisations.

Interested coaches and leaders are encouraged to contact the UGF Secretariat for assistance with their applications for these courses.

For those interested in specialized training, the 2025-2026 calendar also features Sustainability Workshops and Youth Coaching Workshops aimed at nurturing grassroots talent.

As we move toward the 2026 Commonwealth Games, these initiatives ensure that the Uganda Gymnastics Federation remains not only competitive on the mat but also a leader in sports administration and integrity.

Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare our athletes for the global stage!
