A Step Toward Formal Recognition: Update on UGF’s Registration Status

Step by Step

Greetings to our athletes, coaches, member clubs, and gymnastics enthusiasts across Uganda! We are writing to share an important update regarding the Uganda Gymnastic Federation's (UGF) application for formal registration as a National Sport Organisation.

The Path To Excellence:

The Current Milestone

On January 7, 2026, the National Council of Sports (NCS) provided feedback following their review of our application under the National Sports Act and the 2025 Regulations. While our initial submission did not fully meet all the mandatory requirements, the NCS has issued a Compliance Improvement Directive.

This directive grants UGF a five-month window to address specific areas and finalize our registration. We view this as a constructive step that provides us with a clear roadmap to becoming a fully recognized national entity.

Key Areas of Focus

To achieve full compliance, we will be working closely with our members and the NCS on the following:

  •  * Expanding District Participation: The law requires us to show participation in at least 75% of Uganda’s districts (approximately 110 districts) to be recognized as a national federation.
  •  * Strengthening Governance: We are tasked with ensuring our elective general assembly meets the legal quorum, with voting delegates representing at least 50% of the districts in Uganda (approximately 73 districts).
  • *  UGF will have to conduct an Elective AGM by May 2026, within the appropriate regulatory guidelines, as stipulated in this communication from the President: UGF Elections
  •  * Constitutional Updates: We have already drafted an amended constitution that includes required clauses on membership, executive committee powers, and financial transparency. These amendments will soon be presented to the General Assembly for final approval and adoption.

The Path Forward

The UGF leadership is committed to treating this matter with the highest urgency. Over the next five months, we will reach out to our member clubs and regional representatives to verify participation and finalize documentation.

We are excited about this opportunity to strengthen the foundation of gymnastics in Uganda. By meeting these legal standards, we ensure a more robust and professional future for our sport, our athletes, and our international standing.

Thank you for your continued support as we work toward this historic goal!
