Looking to Our Future: JICA Partnership and Foundation for Solidarity Scholarship For Athletes

Global Partnerships

At the Uganda Gymnastics Federation (UGF), we are committed to "Flipping Uganda Forward" by creating world-class opportunities for our athletes and coaches. We are thrilled to share two major developments that will shape the future of gymnastics in our country: a deepening partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the opening of the FIG Foundation for Solidarity scholarship applications.

International Collaborations

Strengthening Ties with JICA: Volunteers for Growth

L-R: Ms. Nabunnya Juliet – JICA Programme Officer, Mr. Inoue Yoichi – JICA Chief Representative, Ms. Ayaa Harriet – UGF President Ms. Emilly Donia – UGF Secretary General, Ms. Clara Amaguru – UGF Executive Committee Member, Ms. Mori Eiko – JICA Volunteer Coordinator, Mr. Patrick Olango – UGF Head of Coaches, Ms. Arai Ayano – JICA NGO Japan Desk

On January 6, 2026, UGF leadership met with JICA representatives to discuss a transformative volunteer cooperation program.

What this means for Ugandan Gymnastics:

  •  * Expert Coaching: JICA is exploring the placement of volunteers with expertise in Physical Education (PE) and gymnastics to support programs in schools and local communities.
  •  * Regional Reach: We are looking to engage existing JICA volunteers, such as the specialist currently at Gulu Primary Teachers’ College, to boost regional activities in Northern Uganda.
  •  * Nationwide Potential: JICA has indicated the potential to place multiple volunteers across different regions, pending safety assessments.

 * Upcoming Deadlines: While the current application cycle closes shortly, a new recruitment window will open in July 2026.

Important Note: To host JICA volunteers, the Federation and partner schools must meet specific requirements, including providing suitable accommodation and reliable vehicle transportation (motorcycles are not permitted).

We are also excited to announce potential collaborations for World Environment Day (June 5, 2026) and celebrations marking 25 years of JICA in Uganda.
