UGF Vaults into Partnership: Report from the National Sports Officers Capacity Building Workshop

Building Partnerships

The Uganda Gymnastics Federation (UGF) is excited to report on its successful attendance at the recent National Capacity Building Workshop for Sports Officers. This vital three-day event, held from November 19th to 21st at Joyce Hotel Mubende, was a fantastic platform to build crucial relationships and advance the sport of Gymnastics across Uganda.

Collaborative Spirit and Key Attendees

The workshop was a joint effort organized by the National Sports Officers Association (NASO) in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and Sports, under the Physical Education and Sports Department. Its core aim was to equip Sports Officers with the essential skills for effective sports management in their districts. The gathering brought together a wide range of influential sports and education stakeholders, including:

 * All Sports Officers in the country.

 * The National Council of Sports (NCS).

 * The Permanent Secretary and Commissioner of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES).

 * Representatives from National Sports Federations, including FUFA and UGF.

Fulfilling Our National Mandate

The President of the Uganda Gymnastics Federation was honoured to attend. UGF’s participation was strategic and crucial for several reasons:

 * To Create Awareness: We created awareness of Gymnastics among Sports Officers across the Nation.

 * National Character: The attendance helped fulfill UGF’s mandate of achieving national coverage and establishing Gymnastics as a sport with a national character.

 * Building Rapport: Most importantly, we worked to create a close working relationship and understanding between the Federation and the Sports Officers.

Workshop Focus and Outcomes

The capacity building sessions were designed to educate Sports Officers on critical aspects of their roles, including:

 * Organizing events in their respective Districts and Cities.

 * Understanding budgeting and good financial practices.

 * Communication and information pathways.

 * Understanding the National Sports Act prescribed by the NCS and the policy under the Ministry of Education and Sports.

A significant takeaway was the realization of a big gap in awareness and the existence of Gymnastics in many districts. This highlighted the need for UGF to proactively engage.

Moving Forward: Commitment to Collaboration

The workshop concluded with strong recommendations, which UGF is committed to implementing to cement its relationship with the Sports Officers:

 * Close Collaboration: We must collaborate very closely with all Sports Officers to achieve our mandate of national coverage.

 * Capacity Building: There is a need for a specific capacity-building program for all Sports Officers in Uganda.

 * Strategic Involvement: Sports Officers should be put on the forefront of all planning and strategic development.

 * Development of National Sports System [DNSS] Program: UGF will look to involve all Sports Officers in the DNSS Program scheduled for early 2026.

Conclusion

The National Sports Officers Capacity Building was an important platform that resulted in UGF successfully creating awareness and updating Sports Officers on the Federation’s activities. We remain committed to working closely with them to advance the sport of Gymnastics in our Country!
