UGF Prepares to Leap to New Heights at the National Olympic Games!

The Uganda Gymnastics Federation (UGF) is actively preparing for full involvement in the upcoming National Olympic Games, with a focus on showcasing our sport and building national awareness. Despite not having officially confirmed participation yet, our commitment to readiness and strong representation is clear. UGF was represented by the Coach Patrick Olango at the UOC meeting held on 7 November 2025 with representatives from other national sports federations and associations.

Key Focus Areas:

Building Champions and Visibility

Our preparations center on a multi-pronged approach to ensure our athletes, coaches, and officials are ready for the national stage.

  •   * Athlete Readiness: We are prioritizing the health and technical expertise of our team, which includes conducting medical and anti-doping sensitisation for all participating athletes. To this end, in November 2025, UGF, through its international body FIG, participated in a series of webinars on Anti-Doping hosted by the International Testing Agency.
  •   * Capacity Building: Short refresher training sessions for coaches, judges, and officials like the Aerobic Gymnastics Camp in December will be organised before the final team selections.
  •   * Resource Mobilisation: Discussions are ongoing regarding the need to mobilise resources and increase UGF’s visibility to attract essential sponsors and public attention.

Addressing Challenges and Taking Action

We acknowledge the challenges ahead, including limited funding, the need for increased public recognition, and the scarcity of Olympic-ready infrastructure.

To overcome these, we have outlined clear action points:

  •    * Visibility Campaign: We will develop local gymnastics athletes through local events, media engagement, and school outreach programs. We are committed to building interest and recruiting young gymnasts through community engagement, utilizing schools (via USSA) and local clubs. A clear example of this was the Gym For All Festival and Challenge held in October as well as UGF’s intent to attend the upcoming USSSA AGM on 15 November 2025.
       * Coordination: Maintaining regular contact with the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) for technical guidance and logistical updates is crucial. We will also await the official National Olympic Games calendar from the UOC, which will be shared immediately upon receipt. UGF recently engaged the UOC/CGU at its quarterly Council meeting in October 2025.
       * Strengthening Partnerships: We will strengthen collaboration with schools, sports academies, and community clubs for talent identification and development. We have so far started discussions with the Uganda Prisons with the hope of establishing a Gymnastics Club that will serve communities in and around Nakawa Division.

A Call to Action for Our Community

We kindly request all discipline heads to complete the consultation form provided to federations. The information gathered is essential to guide the next steps in our preparation process. The collective goal, shared with other federations, is to demonstrate clear preparedness before the National Olympic Committee’s holiday break on December 16th, starting with federations redesigning their calendars to allow December for review and rest.

With proactive teamwork, effective communication, and leadership support, the Uganda Gymnastics Federation is dedicated to ensuring readiness and strong representation for gymnastics at the National Olympic Games.
